Startup Nation’s Top 7 VC Firms

Who's no.1? Silicon Valley still. But what about no.2? You guessed it: Israel. The "Startup Nation" has a mature, well developed tech ecosystem with a multitude of great startups, impressive multi-billion dollar exits as well as a long list of VCs that have set up shop in Israel, both domestic and foreign.

But who are the best, most influential VCs in Israel? It took us a while to form the following list. We reviews other recent lists and conducted interviews and discussions with 32 successful Israeli entrepreneurs and angel investors who know the industry intimately. Here's what we came up with:

1. Bessemer Venture Partners (BVP) - Israel

Based in Redwood City, California, Bessemer is one of the world's leading VC firms. Bessemer invests in consumer, cyber security, enterprise software, internet, clean technology, energy, healthcare, financial services, mobile and more.

2. Vertex Ventures

Base in Savyon, Israel, Vertex Ventures Israel invests in technology-centric, high growth, capital efficient startups. Focus: Cyber Security, Cloud Infrastructure, E-Commerce, Big Data & Analytics, Automotive, Ag-Tech, Digital Health, Industry 4.0, Robotics, Fintech, Machine and Deep Learning & more.

 

3. Magma Venture Partners

Based in Tel Aviv, Israel, Magma is dedicated to investing in Israel's information, communications and technology space (ICT), including the software, semiconductor and new media spheres.

 

4. Aleph VC

Based in Tel Aviv, Israel, the firm was founded in 2013 and it seeks to invest in companies operating in the internet, mobile, software and technology sectors. It's specialty is in partnering up with great entrepreneurs to help scale them into large, meaningful companies and globally recognized brands.

 

5. TLV Partners

An early stage VC with $270M under management. This VC invests in early stage startups and help them grow, excel in and lead new markets. It is widely regarded as a fast, decisive, "BS free" venture capital firm.

 

6. Pitango

One of the oldest VC firms around. Established in 1993, and based in Herzliya, Israel with an additional office in Palo Alto, they have over $2B under management (via Pitango VC and Pitango Growth) and more than 250 portfolio companies.

 

7. StageOne 

StageOne seeks seed-stage, deep technology B2B startups. Led by highly experienced GPs who evolved to this position from entrepreneurs, they look for highly talented entrepreneurs with profound technological innovations.
